I commute to work which is a half hour trip both ways. To save myself from boredom- also to save myself from reading over people’s shoulders as I can’t seem to resist the written word – I bring a book to read.
I’ve always enjoyed Georgette Heyer’s comedy of manners. This series has that sense of fun.
Werewolves, vampires and parasols, oh my!
I watched a documentary recently on the demise of the romance movie. Screenwriters were saying – Where is the romance and sexual tension if the guy and girl can hop into bed on the first date and no one blinks an eye.
In this series there is a great deal of eye blinking going on. I read it on the train and try not to giggle aloud.
I just finished Soulless and loved it. It did indeed make me giggle.
We need ore reads like this, Eleni. It’s funny, the characterisation is solid, the plot is solid and the whole thing comes together with a sense of fun!
LOL I too just finished Soulless and loved it. 🙂 parasols and all.
Kika, I’d rather read about Ivy’s attempts to maintain a conversation on hunting (a subject she knows nothing about) with the Kingair werewolves at the dinner table, than unending sex scenes with Anita Blake.
I think we need more comedies of manners.
Maybe we just need more manners!
Hey Rowena
I loved the first two of these books – and I’m pretty sure the marvellous Ms Carriger is coming to Aussiecon!
Oooh, big girl squeee. Maybe I can interview her? I said I’d do a post for the Solaris blog on World Con.
I really loved these two book, eagerly awaiting the third!!! I can’t wait to get my hands on it 🙂
Tarran. the books are distinctive. They do what they do so well. I love her ‘voice’. So, yes, I’m definitely looking out for the next one in the series.
